the person behind the app
Dev Saini
Dev Saini is the founder of ExtinctBook. He built it after spending time with kirana store owners and observing a consistent pattern: shopkeepers had gone digital with Khatabook or OkCredit but were frustrated — loan notifications, slow performance on budget phones, WhatsApp reminders that didn't include payment links, and an app that was increasingly designed to sell financial products rather than to track a khata.
The insight behind ExtinctBook is simple: India's 6 crore+ small businesses need a tool that does three things well — record udhar in five seconds, remind customers in a way that actually gets them to pay, and show the day's profit before the chai gets cold. Everything else is distraction.
ExtinctBook is built on the belief that a focused tool beats an ambitious platform. The app will not offer loans. It will not offer supplier credit. It will not become a super-app. The khata is the product.
What Dev writes about
The guides on this blog come from direct research with shopkeepers across kirana stores, garment shops, hardware stores, and medical shops. The content covers credit management systems, the real economics of khata apps, and practical advice for Indian small business owners who run their shops on trust and a notebook — and want to do better.
